The James Heal abrasion and pilling tester, with the adaptability to test a wide range of applications, is the instrument of choice for many of the world’s leading laboratories and global retailers.
Now with the James Heal touchscreen user interface, the user has access to the most intuitive and simple to use Martindale on the market.
James Heal was involved in the development of the original Martindale with Dr Martindale and WIRA in the 1940s. We have since established our position as a leading supplier, selling thousands of Martindales in the subsequent decades. Part of our position as a trusted manufacturer comes from using the instrument ourselves in our ISO 17025 compliant in-house laboratories.
The Martindale can be set to 9 different languages, accessed through the Settings menu. These are:
James Heal’s comprehensive Martindale model range comes with 2,5 and 9 stations, which can be equipped with kits to test a range of applications.
The design of each instrument enables ergonomic access to all stations from the front. The 9 station model has a hinged lid for easy access.
We manufacture, process, test and package the original Martindale test materials in house. They undergo rigorous testing procedures before being available locally around the world.
Engineers with years of field experience offer high quality, comprehensive calibration to keep your instrument in prime condition.
A simple jog function allows the operator to move the top plate into a suitable position to mount abrasive fabric. Testing can be set a variable speeds - Slow, Normal, Fast and Custom.
Precision quick lock clamping rings, engineered from aerospace grade aluminium in house in the UK, twist onto each station securing test materials in place with ease.
Textiles
For assessing the durability and wearability of textiles, the Martindale comes as standard with suitable accessories for testing textiles.
Socks
Our sock abrasion kit uses a precision ball to simulate the pressure points of a foot in a sock, to see how quickly holes are formed.
Leather
A ball plate kit, a metal plate with ball bearings across the surface, tests the abrasion resistance of leather. Accessories to test soiling on leather are also available.
Carpets
There are two ways to test carpets on the Martindale, a Hexapod Stud which attached to the top sample holder or a Carpet Sample Holder Kit.
Coated Upholstery
Accessories and relevant instruments can be used alongside the Martindale for testing the transfer of soiling onto coated upholstery fabrics.
Edges
A line contact plate kit, a circular plate with a raised bar in the middle, creates localised abrasion for testing edges such as collars and cuffs.
