The software is very simple - no user manual required and it’s as intuitive as a SmartPhone.
It can be configured to be as simple or comprehensive to meet the specific needs of the user. It allows routine testing to be started in as little as three touches of the screen.
A Standard can be selected, with one touch of the screen, from a pre-programmed list or the user can define their own method. The entire set of parameters associated with each standard are pre-defined, including, where appropriate: Irradiance, Temperature and Relative Humidity.
‘User friendly’ is a term used often by companies but TruFade is genuinely user friendly. One of the many seemingly small design elements, which together make TruFade incredibly easy to use, are positioning guides, small notches in the sample holder. These notches makes life much easier for the user when, for example, testing Blue Wool.
James Heal premounted Blue Wools and specimen mounting cards are also supplied with the same notches to further complement this process.
The mask or cover is placed upon the specimen and firmly positioned using the notches on the Tri-sided holder.
After a mid-test visual assessment these guides ensure the mask or cover is placed back in exactly the same position.
At the end of the test the fade is shown with a clearly defined edge to ensure the users can make a definitive assessment.

The School of Design at the University of Leeds has a long history of teaching and research in textile technology. When establishing a new state-of-the-art Materials Testing Laboratory recently, we sought the advice of James Heal - with their many years of experience in developing testing instruments for textiles, they were the obvious choice.
Our discussion with the owners at James Heal, led to an investment in a comprehensive range of analytical tools that is now a showcase facility for the School and highlights the importance of characterisation of materials performance in the modern textiles industry. Colour is core area of expertise and research within the School, and one of the key instruments we use to determine colour durability is the TruFade Light Fastness Tester.
